Ski touring week Münstertal – Obervinschgau

Pure pleasure
Saturday, March 7
Move into the “hut” Tuberis Nature and Spa in Taufers
After our individual arrival in the Münstertal to our “lodge” Tuberis Nature and Spa in Taufers, we met for a welcome aperitif in the hotel reception. After inspecting the 2000m2 wellness facilities, we enjoyed an incredibly rich salad and starter buffet. The motto for this week was clear: pure indulgence, on the mountain and in the valley.

Sunday March 8
Buffalora warm-up tour
A wonderful ascent in bright sunshine. First through the Swiss stone pine forest, then in open terrain, we reach the summit at a leisurely pace after around 2 ½ hours and 660 vertical meters. After taking in the magnificent panorama, we start the descent: powder snow at its finest. Everyone made great turns in the snow. The snow was flying with every turn! At the bottom in Buffalora, we enjoyed beer and other drinks and were able to admire our turns from a distance.

Monday, March 9
Bad weather program freeriding in the Mischaun area. The weather was only for the hardy, who were hoping for good runs in fresh snow due to the snowfall…
After the descent from Alp Champatsch towards Lü (one of the three highest villages in Europe, 1920 m above sea level), the bend before Lü towards Tschierv was so tricky… the hooligans among us managed to demolish their surface at full throttle in a sharp left-hand bend that they had to take their skis to the ski doctor.

Still bad weather – Rojental Spi da Russenna
We set off at a slightly reduced speed – despite the fog that was certainly to be expected. First stop in Burgeis at the ski doctor, who professionally heals the wounds of the previous day. Next stop at Bergkristall, the Alpine inn at the start. For reasons not specified here, the team’s strength was further reduced, while the hard core took on the ascent in the snowfall. Long story made short: we neither saw nor climbed the summit. At 2540m there was enough fog and driving snow in the knowledge that the next day would be fantastic….

Wednesday, March 11
Overcast morning, bright afternoon… Rojental – Innerer Nockenkopf 2772m
Once again, members had to pick up skis from the ski instructor, which didn’t stop the rest of the group from strapping on their skis and heading towards the Innerer Nockenkopf. The longer the day, the better the weather and the warmer the temperatures. What initially smelled like crushed snow quickly became softer and softer.
The descent over long slopes in soft snow – a dream. Straight on to the parking lot and the aperitif thanks to the infrastructure of Dominic and Astrid’s new van – thank you very much!

After the great and wonderful tour, another highlight awaited us in the evening. The main meal of the evening, THE ROAST CHICKEN!
Instead of a chicken, there was a rooster on the menu for once…who was still growling !?!?! Let everyone form their own fantasies about this name. But it was at least worth giving it a chance, because it was probably only available in South Tyrol… so try it… the surprise was correspondingly big (see picture).
Thursday, March 12
From Graun to the end of the valley…
It was a hot day. Blue sky, white hills, from Melag 1912m to Glockhauser 3023m. Following the ski lift (unfortunately already stopped), over the moraine, along the river towards Spitz. Just under 4 hours, 11 participants up to the cross – a great day.

The descent seemed tricky. After the first section, however, it was “pure enjoyment” – as the motto of the touring week promised.
Today was also the evening when Tobias performed the last steam bath peeling and the last sauna infusion. It was hot but certainly felt good and the exertions of the day were forgotten …
Friday, March 13
Kicked out of Tuberis Nature and Spa… Piz Dainte … to Buffalora
Dislocation to Zernez It was a good idea to do a great tour up Piz Dainte on the last day. Dominic set a leisurely pace so that all participants reached the summit without any problems. Fortunately, the sun was partially hidden by the clouds, making the ascent and descent easy to manage. Finally, it was an adventurous slalom descent between trees and a stream towards the end. At the Buffalora restaurant, we enjoyed a cold, refreshing beer and took in the white lines high up on the slope for the last time.
Even if “kicked out” sounds negative, the hotel deserves a little pat on the back: The landlord did everything he could to be a great host despite the country’s coronavirus lockdown – 5-course menus as always, wellness with Mario and Tobias – really great.
