Snowshoe tour to the Hotel Weisshorn

Mountain scenery in a class of its own
After some rescheduling by our tour leaders, Siebrig and Dominic, we were able to experience a great 2-day snowshoe tour after Christmas. This was Siebrig’s first time as a tour leader in the SAC. We started the first day with sunny weather in St. Luc, from where we took the cog railroad to the ski area.

From there, it was time to put on snowshoes and follow in single file towards the pass …. to run. Once there, we enjoyed the wonderful view of the Valais mountains. After a short break and a lesson about the respective mountains, we continued on towards the Hotel Weisshorn, where we were promised a warm meal.

We were not promised too much, the warm rooms and the good food and the infamous blueberry dessert rounded off this day with one or more good Genepi.

The next day we continued towards Ayer, passing through deep snow and excellent places that would otherwise have been inaccessible. In the snow and protected from the ski tourists, we saw chamois and ptarmigans, which provided a wonderful end to the tour.
